Janarupam is an Indian registered charity established in 1997 to work with children, young people and women in the slum areas of Bangalore.

It has always had a major focus on education, starting by working with local slum families to establish a creche and give children a foundation for education. Supporting children and through education breaks the cycle of children and young people being left to wander streets begging or forced into work.

In 2003, with support from UK charities, Janarupam was able to consolidate its work to include working with the many migrant children in the area.

Janarupam’s main activities include:

• provision of creche and pre-school programmes
• support for formal education for children
• homework clubs
• provision of educational supplies to children
• literacy programmes
• creative and recreational activities
• vocational training for young women e.g. tailoring.
