Meru Herbs

Meru Herbs is based on the eastern slopes of Mount Kenya. It aims to empower women, alleviate poverty and improve standards of living. Founded in 1991, it supports local smallholder farmers by offering a market for their produce, aiming to improve their income by opening up global markets.

Up to 100 local women are employed preparing the produce to make wonderful herbal teas, jams made from tropical fruits and tomato based sauces.

Meru Herbs is a women led organisation dedicated to fair trade principles. It is a member of WFTO, guaranteeing that it is working to meet the 10 principles of fair trade in all that it does. True Origin, a fair trade food importer based in Paisley, has worked closely with Meru Herbs for a number of years, importing and marketing its wonderful fair trade jams, sauces
and herbal teas in the UK.
