Saidiana Women started in 1998 as a small, locally led project operating in Kitale in Western Kenya. It supports some of the poorest women in the region, aiming to lift them from lives of neglect and poverty and improve livelihoods for future generations.

Micro empowerment grants can help women establish small businesses such as raising dairy cattle or planting a kitchen garden to both feed a family and generate income.

Training in skills such as sewing is offered to young single mothers, often school drop-outs. Offering training and then supporting individuals with grants for the purchase of sewing machines provides these young women with the opportunity to generate income through becoming self employed.

Currently the work of Saidiana is expanding beyond the local area and plans are underway to establish a rescue centre whose main purpose will be to provide a safe space for women and children facing crisis; to reunite children and families and to restore hope via education, business opportunity and parenting skills.
